Foreclosure Counselor Says Bravo As a certified foreclosure prevention/housing counselor, I see everyday how animals are one of the few comforts left in lives ravaged by economic hardship. Bravo to you for coming to the aide of those who, often for reasons predatory and reprehensible, have lost their homes to foreclosure. Submitted By: BIBRANN

Pets as Personal Property In an email to Barbara, I responded: Hi Barbara, I saw your comment on the website. Pets as personal property poses a real problem when abandoned pre or post foreclosure. The laws prohibit removal of personal property prior to foreclosure and after foreclosure, states regulate how to handle. Some states require a 18 day posting of personal property; some states you need to do an eviction of personal property – it’s all over the board. So that means when an animal is abandoned, by law you cannot remove. Hope this helps. Submitted By: Cheryl Lang

Why change these laws? Why do you want to change the laws that regard pets as personal property? Foreclosure relates to real property, not personal property. I don't understand why this is an issue, can you explain? Submitted By: Barbara Haines
